Cup Review Game

GAMES

This is one of my favorite classroom games. You can use it with any worksheet or activity where students have at least two choices as an answer. Each pair of students has three different colored cups in a line on the floor between them. Each color cup represents an answer choice, so for our game yesterday, the blue represented a simple sentence, the orange cup a compound sentence, and the green cup represented a complex sentence. I project a sentence on the board, and students try to grab the correct cup before their partner. It's a great way to get kids moving, and before I say the correct answer, we have some lively discussions about why they chose the cup they are holding (or wanted to be holding if their partner beat them to the right cup!) This is great for practice with commonly confused words- to/too/two. affect/effect, there/their/they're, etc.

This picture is from a few years ago. I was using three different cups left over from classroom parties to play the game. Fun and learning for the win!
